“It’s certainly a beautiful building that every citizen in Las Vegas can be proud of. It is only the beginning of the transformation of Las Vegas — and the entire community — into the world-class city it deserves to become.”
Carolyn Goodman
Mayor of Las Vegas
Project Description
- The new Las Vegas City Hall communicates the goal of transparent government by opening out to the city with a street-level program that accommodates daily civic programming.
- The LEED-NC Gold-certified building is dedicated to sustainability, featuring strategies including a solar panel rooftop, glass with integrated shading technology, and landscape photovoltaic canopies that shade the plaza and act as energy-generating “trees.”
- The design tells the story of the city’s past, present, and future sources of energy: the Council Chamber’s form is inspired by the desert springs that were the original source of water; the main façade is a metaphor for the Colorado River, which generates the City’s energy at Hoover Dam; and the photovoltaic trees generate energy from the sun, the city’s future source of renewable energy.
